From the Queen Anne’s Update Weeklyby Sandra Zunino Centreville, MD — January 10, 2007 Despite the rural landscape and country atmosphere of Queen Anne’s County, the high tech world is at our doorstep. Both in business and at home, the use of computers, internet and assorted technologies are both useful and necessary for efficiency and competition with the world marketplace. Technology, however, in its rapidly changing formats and equipment is hard for the average person to keep up with. Problems become too expensive to ignore, and are often complicated and time consuming to resolve. This is when having an information technology expert at your disposal is invaluable. Fortunately Corsica Technologies, a service disabled veteran owned business located in Centreville, has solutions for both existing and potential IT situations for residential and small-to-medium-sized businesses in this area. Dale Walls, president of the organization, founded Corsica Technologies in 2003 with wife Jody and partner Duane Wagner. As a former Marine Corps Sergeant, Dale amassed technological expertise in the military, entrusted with oversight of large scale networking. He began working out his business plan while stationed in San Diego, before returning here, where he was raised. Duane, originally from Indiana served with Dale in the Marines. Also experienced with large scale operations, Duane is the Technology Services Manager for the company. In keeping with this experience, the team members have provided IT solutions for the Air National Guard, United States Marine Corps, the US Department of State, as well as numerous businesses from Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Annapolis to Washington DC and Virginia. In fact, one third of the staff maintains a Top Secret level security clearance. “There is no technical solution we cannot provide,” says Dale. Transitioning from the military atmosphere to the business world did not appear to be a problem for the team. In October of 2006, Corsica Technologies was honored with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Queen Anne’s County Chamber of Commerce. Unlike large corporations, having an IT professional on staff is usually unaffordable for many businesses. Corsica Technologies fills that role for a fraction of the price, analyzing the situation, making recommendations based on the company goals, implementing solutions with hardware and software, and providing technical support. For residential customers they can set up, maintain and repair computer systems, add or replace failed hard drives, and install software. Literally that one-stop shop, they offer services like custom web design and products such as computers, hardware, software and support systems. “We align ourselves with product lines we know are reliable,” explains Dale, “We want to provide our customers with value.” Jody is in charge of facilitating customer relations. A dynamic personality, she serves on both the QAC and Kent County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and is also the current president of the Chesapeake Women’s Network. Additionally she is launching Vision, Young Professionals of Queen Anne’s County, a group devoted to bringing professionals together for networking. Dedicated to customer service, Corsica Technologies conducts follow-ups to ensure the client’s complete satisfactions. “Information should be relayed in such a way that the client understands,” explains Dale. “They were quick to locate and solve our IT issues, and offered suggestions to help prevent future problems,” stated customer Rik Ferrell of Brightside Advertising & Marketing in Centerville. “Plus, it was refreshing to call them and have a human voice answer the phone immediately.” Conveniently located close to the heart of historic Centreville, at 335 N. Liberty Street, Corsica Technologies welcomes walk-in clientele between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can also call 443-262-9290 or visit corsicatech.com.
