Question 2 of 9
How many users need a license?
150 users

Google's Business tiers (Starter, Standard, Plus) are capped at 300 users combined. Above that, Enterprise is required.

Question 3 of 9

Question 4 of 9
What does your device fleet look like?
Question 5 of 9
What runs your identity today?
Question 6 of 9
What's your heaviest compliance requirement?

The middle path: keep Google's suite, add Microsoft's security

Choosing Google Workspace doesn't mean giving up Microsoft-grade security tooling. For organizations invested in Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps can connect to Google Workspace through an API and layer substantial protection on top of what Google provides natively:

  • Activity monitoring and threat detection
  • File-sharing governance and DLP (with sensitivity labeling)
  • Third-party OAuth app governance
  • User remediation and session controls
  • Posture management and unified SOC visibility in Defender XDR

Microsoft Intune can also provide MDM for devices accessing your Google environment, via a Managed Google Play connection. For hybrid organizations, this stack is often more practical than a full Workspace Enterprise upgrade — or a migration.

For regulated mid-market buyers, the real comparison isn't list price — it's Workspace Plus/Enterprise with supplemental security tooling vs. a Microsoft E3/E5 bundle where identity, endpoint, and compliance are built in. Corsica supports both suites natively, with 24/7 platform-agnostic SOC/MDR, help desk, and compliance services. We'll walk you through the strengths of each and help you land on the right fit.

    FAQs

How does Google Workspace compare to Microsoft 365?

Both platforms are mature, secure, and enterprise-capable. The better fit depends on how an organization works rather than which suite is objectively stronger.

    • Google Workspace is a good fit for organizations that prioritize browser-native, real-time collaboration, fast onboarding, and low administrative overhead. Teams that live in a browser, work across mixed device fleets, and want a simple licensing story often gravitate toward Google Workspace.
    • Microsoft 365 is a good fit for organizations with deep Windows and Microsoft estates, complex compliance and governance requirements, or heavy reliance on desktop-grade Office capabilities such as advanced Excel modeling, Power Platform automation, and identity-driven security through Entra ID and Intune.

In practice, most mid-market organizations in regulated industries land on Microsoft 365 because the identity, endpoint, and compliance layers are already part of the stack they’re licensing anyway. Google Workspace tends to win where collaboration velocity and simplicity matter more than depth of control.

Is Microsoft 365 more secure than Google Workspace?

Neither platform is categorically “more secure.” In either case, the security of the solution depends on configuration and management rather than on the platform itself.

That said, Microsoft 365 offers a deeper, more complete enterprise security stack, including Entra ID (Azure AD) with Conditional Access, Intune device management, Defender threat protection, and Purview compliance tooling. Meanwhile, Google Workspace provides solid, simpler baseline security with fewer advanced governance and threat-detection capabilities.

Note that Microsoft 365 carries more compliance certifications (including FedRAMP High, HIPAA BAA, and ITAR), which matters in regulated industries. However, the nuances cut both ways. The depth of Microsoft 365 comes with far more configuration surface to get wrong, and Microsoft is the more heavily targeted platform, with notable cloud incidents in recent years. Meanwhile, Google’s zero-trust, browser-native architecture is harder to misconfigure and is more than sufficient for many organizations.

Critically, both productivity suites operate under a shared responsibility model that leaves data protection, access controls, and backup/recovery obligations to the customer. Regardless of the chosen platform, a well-managed tenant will beat a poorly managed tenant every time.

How does Google Workspace compare to Microsoft 365 in terms of pricing?

Broadly speaking, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 offer similar pricing. At the SMB tiers, pricing is now essentially at parity; after Microsoft’s July 2026 price update, Microsoft 365 Business Basic sits at $7 and Business Standard at $14 per user/month paid yearly, matching Google Workspace’s Starter ($7) and Standard ($14) exactly, with both suites topping their SMB lineups at $22.

The real cost differences come from what’s inside each tier and how you scale. Google includes more storage at comparable tiers (2TB per user at Standard vs. OneDrive’s 1TB in Microsoft’s Standard plan) and bundles Gemini AI into its plans, while Microsoft includes desktop Office apps starting at Business Standard and charges separately for AI (Copilot runs $30/user/month).

Two other nuances to note: both vendors charge a ~20% premium for flexible monthly billing over annual commitment, and Microsoft’s costs climb much more steeply at enterprise scale (E3 at $36 and E5 at $57 per user/month) where Google’s Enterprise tier is custom-quoted. This means Microsoft is often the pricier path for large regulated orgs that need its full security/compliance stack, even though it’s a dead heat for smaller teams.
